On forgiveness (from “the unburdened heart”)

May 5, 2009

1.To forgive is to forget.
2.Forgiveness is a one-time event.
3.I order to be forgiven, the offender must be sorry and ask for
4.If one trulyforgives,he or shereconciles with the offender.
5.We can forgive another person without their knowledge.
6.Forgiving means we surrender our right to justice.
7 The act of forgiveness benfits the forgiver more than the offender.

Colossians 3:13
Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you have a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
8.We can forgive and still hold the other person accountable.
9.The only person who can forgive is the person who was offended.
10.When one is able to forgive, the feelings opf pain will disappear.

Forgiveness is….
Letting go of resentment
Moving ahead and letting go of the past
Getting your power back: not letting the offender control your
A sincere, honest act
Surrendering your need to get even
Gaining clarity to the feelings of anger and hurt
A complex, ongoing process

From works to faith

April 7, 2009

Galatians 2:16
Man is not justified by his works of law, but by his faith in Jesus Christ. So, we, too have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ, and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified.

How do we get right with God?
Getting right with God is by faith in Jesus alone and not by works. We can do all the good works our hearts lead us to but nothing we do will ever earn us entrance into heaven.

Ephesians 2:8
For by grace you have been saved by faith…

John 6:47
He who believes in Me has everlasting life…

A right relationship with God motivates us to live holy righteous lives by faith. Until you have this assurance of a right relationship with Christ and your own salvation, everything you do for God will be done with the wrong motive. If you don’t have the assurance of salvation, then all your efforts are to gain eternal life. This is sin because your motive is gain and greed instead of thanksgiving and gratitude.

1John 5:13
These things have I written to you who believe, that you may know you have eternal life, and that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

Galatians 3:22-23
The scriptures declares that the whole world is a prisoner of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith is Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe. Before this faith came we were held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith should be revealed. So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ so that we may be justified by faith.

Ephesians 2:4
But because of His great love for us, God who is rich in His mercy made us alive in Christ, even while we are dead in transgressions. It is by grace you have been saved.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

When we’ve accepted the gift of eternal life by placing our trust in Him we can sing with confidence: “Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine, o what a foretaste of glory divine.” Amen

Living with stress

March 27, 2009

From the day we are born our lives are filled with circumstances that challenge us and cause us stress. Our natural response is to try to fix things and control the situation. Whenever we do this we miss out on the peace God offers if we surrender our cares to Him. He can use any situation to bring us closer to Him.

Matthew 6:25-27
…do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food… Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly father feeds them. Are you not more valuable than they; who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life…

Matthew 6:33
But seek first His Kingdom and all His righteousness, and all things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I will give you…Do not let your heart be troubled and do not be afraid.

Psalm 37:5
Commit your way to the Lord: trust in Him and He will help you.

Isaih 26:3
You will keep in perfect peace He whose mind is steadfast because He trusts in you…

Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, and who have been called according to His purpose.

Phillipians 4:7

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

There is a song that sums it up well:
“Turn your eyes upon Jesus’
Look full into His wonderful face
Then all things of  earth will grow strangely dim
in the light of His glory and grace.”

God bless you

Compassion is a natural response to human suffering. It calls for us to reach out to the lonely and mourn with those in tears. It requires for us to be vulnerable in a world where we are taught to avoid pain and sorrow at all costs. We see Christ over and over again demonstrating compassion towards people everywhere He went. Mark6 tells the story of Jesus feeding the five thousand and in Mark6:34 it says, “He had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepard. ” So he set them down and fed them until they were satisfied. We are commanded by our heavenly Father to demonstrate the same heart of compassion that Christ demonstrated towards us.

Col 3:12- Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Eph 4:32- Be kind and compassionate to one another.

Eph 5:1- Be imitators of God… live a live of love, just as Christ loved us.

2Cor 1:3- Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. …

Reach out. Extend yourselves today.

My favorite poem

March 17, 2009

God hath not promised
skies allows blue
flower- strewn pathways
All our lives thru
God hath not promised
sun without rain,
joy without sorrow,
peace without pain.

But God hath promised
strength for the day
rest for the labor
light for the way
grace for the trials
help from above
unfailing sympathy
and undying love

This too will pass away

March 15, 2009

If I can endure for the moment

whatever is happening to me

no matter how heavy my heart is or

or how dark the moment might be–

If I can remain calm and quiet

with all my world crashing around me

secure in the knowledge that God loves me

when everyone else seems to doubt me

If I can but keep on believing

what I know in my heart to be true

That darkness will fade away with the morning

and that this will pass away too–

Then nothing in life can defeat me

for as long as this knowledge remains,

I can suffer whatever is happening, for

I know God will break all the chains

that are binding me tight in the darkness

and trying to fill me with fear, for there is no night without dawning

and I know that my morning is near.

Psalm 46:1- God is our refuge and our strength, a very present help in trouble.
John 16:33- These things I have spoken unto you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you should have tribulation; but be good cheer I have overcome the world.
Psalm 32:7- You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.
Romans 8:28- And we know in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to his purpose.

ON kindness

March 15, 2009

Colossians 3:12-14-  Therefore as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, gentleness and patience.  Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another.  Forgive as the Lord forgave you.  And over all these virtues, put on love, which binds them together in perfect unity.

Kindness is one of the fruits of the Spirit and hallmarks of a Christian according to Paul.

Galatians 5:22- But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,  goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness, and self control.

The Lord desires this of us because it is one of the ways our character is a reflection of Christ.

Ephesians 2:7 says God’s kindness is epressed in His grace.  His kindness comes clothed in humility.  This is the kind of love that breaks down barriers and penetrates broken hearts.  It volunteers  to carry what crushes another’s spirit.  Carry each other’s burdens and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Kindness is also evidence of our faith in action.  James 2:26- As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.  Keep in mind that there is no limit or boundaries to the ways one can show kindness.  And because it is love in action, it is one of the most rewarding things you’ll ever do.

Faith, Hope , and Love

Faith, hope, and love– more priceless than gold.

For if you possess them, you’ve riches untold,

For with faith to believe what your eyes cannot see,

And hope to look forward to new joys to be

And love to transform the most commonplace

Into beauty and kindness and goodness and grace,

There’s nothing to much to accomplish or do,

For with faith, hope, and love to carry you through,

Your life will be happy, and full and complete,

For with faith, hope, and love the bitter turns sweet–

For all earthly joys, and heaven’s joys too,

Belong to God’s children who are faithful nd true.
